what’s up beautiful brains!
last week while prepping a presentation, i realized that brainstorming is basically tinder for ideas. hear me out…
when you’re brainstorming, you’re swiping through all these potential ideas one at a time not knowing what or where “the one” is in the stack. even if you immediately swipe left, you’re still spend a second considering the meh, bringing you closer to finding a match.
giving up too soon = missed connections.
so today i’m going to show you home to become a merrier matchmaker of ideas with my 5 brainstorming best practices.
brainstorming best practices:
🐢 don’t rush
🐘 be open-minded
🐜 quantity over quality
🦒 go wilder, wider, & deeper
🐆 shift spots to spark thoughts
don’t rush
last week 50% of y’all voted that your ideas get worse the longer you brainstorm. i have what i think is good news for y’all.
what we’re falling for is called the creative cliff illusion. we incorrectly think we’ve reached a cliff drop off of our ideas, when we’re actually about to hit our creative climax.
you’re not running out of ideas.
you’re running into your best idea.
hbr published an article titled “your best ideas are often your last ideas.”
so please take your time & let your creativity marinate.
be open-minded
each idea swipe could be the next big thing or one step closer to the “one.”
so why shut anything down before giving it a chance to wow you?
brainstorming is so much better when you stay super open-minded because you never know when a unassuming idea might be your knight in shining armor.
time to remove those shallow thought-y filters
& swipe left on judgement, people-pleasing, & perfectionism.
quantity over quality
your default during brainstorming = swipe right.
the more idea matches, the merrier!
in my “stop being 💯 start doing 💯” newsletter from january, i shared a study from the university of florida that backs concept of the law of 100, which i learned about from noah kagan during my million dollar weekend.
a photography professor split his class into 2 groups:
quantity: graded on the amount of pictures taken so A = 100 photos
quality: graded on the excellence of 1 picture so A = 1 perfect photo
at the end of the term, the quantity group way outperformed in terms of quality, proving reps > results.
linus pauling, one of the greatest scientists of all time & rare double recipient of the nobel peace prize, strongly believed in the importance of quantity.
go wilder, wider, & deeper
brainstorming is the time to really stretch your creative muscles & mind.
push your boundaries to explore ideas that are:
wider: broad & encompassing
wilder: crazy & unconventional
deeper: thorough & detailed
explore every possible angle & don’t hold back.
shift spots to spark thoughts
when you start feeling stuck, change your scenery!
move to a different room, go for a walk, or switch to a new spot. back when i worked in an office, i was a big fan of working in different areas for different type of work. something about office kitchens always boosted my creativity & productivity.
this weekend, i decided to work from the floor & was shocked to experience a massive flow of fresh ideas.

meg gerber, a functional gut health dietitian & dear friend, created these divine digestive bitters & she’s offering y’all 10% off your order.
what i drink impacts what i think. so i love to mix things up by dropping in the lemon bitters in my lemon-lime sparking water. can’t wait to try her newest cacao flavor 😍.
make your bevvy better for your belly & your brainstorming with JÜJ!
i hope these 5 best practices got your brain brewing with all the ideas for you next brainstorming session. heck you can even use these 5 best practices for any type of creative problem solving for work, school, love, friends, & life.
