glimmer with glitter sans litter

sparkling + glimmering + glittering

Read time: 3 minutes

gm,

oh glitter.

a tool for sparkly decoration or for cunning deception.

the fairy dust culprit of shiny object syndrome.

love it or hate it, glitter is a wonderful reminder to live a sparkly life.

a life lived in joy.

to live in joy, you must understand that joy & happiness are not the same thing.

in a goop interview with ingrid fetell lee, a designer that uses aesthetics to help people rediscover joy & the author of joyful: the surprising power of ordinary things to create extraordinary happiness, she explains:

happiness measures
how good we feel over time,
whereas joy measures
how good we feel in the moment

happens that her book, research, & TED talk also supports my use of bright, bold colors. feels safe to assume glitter is included in this bucket of lively things as well.

mission

to spark more joy, let’s make it our mission to find glimmers.

if you want inspiration for glimmers, beautiful suggestions in the comments.

for me, i’m challenging myself this week to go headphones free on my morning dog walks so that i can soak in the sun, spring flowers, strangers, & whatever else i encounter.

mindset

once you start glimmering, time to start shimmering.

with a mindset of sparkling like a disco ball.

i like many others love disco balls. as evidenced by my first ever merry makery card design (which is back in stock in midnight!)

after seeing a beautiful bride this weekend dancing under a disco ball & radiating brighter than the disco ball, i experienced first hand how magical it is to be in some one else’s sparkle.

i want us all to sparkle, especially you.

you deserve to shine & standout in your own brilliant way.

embrace your uniqueness. wear bright colors. smile. practice self-care. spread kindness. meditate. work out. be in nature. soak in sun. spark joy. take adventures. be real. be confident. be you.

musing

i don’t think anyone likes cleaning up the mess of actual glitter (thus it being a tool of deception & even revenge).

so i made cards with pictures of the glitter.

all the joy of glitter sans the litter

fun fact glitter was invented in 1934 by a rancher & the US army considered shooting glitter out of planes to mess with radar during WWII. get your glitter facts fix in this vice article.

forever your glitter gal,

MacK
