celebrate + party + birthday

Read time: 3 minutes

cheers to you! yes, you!

on that note, what’s the last thing you celebrated?

i hope you can quickly list off 10 things, but i’m willing to bet you likely paused to think back to the last birthday, wedding, baby shower, promotion, et al.

we tend to associate celebrate with party, but there are SO many more little things in life that are celebration worthy:

  • waking up to a new day

  • drinking clean water

  • taking another breath

  • changing seasons

  • making friends

i started merry makery because i think too many of us live in a celebration deficit & i want to fix that asap.

sombreros are always encouraged

mindset

no surprise here, the mindset of the week is celebrating.

we all know that life gets busy, so we often forget to take a step back & appreciate the small moments. celebrating is a way to slow down & savor. solo or shared. celebrating breaks the routine to mark a special moment with my favorite pastime of merrymaking.

celebrating is extra special when shared as it shows how much you care & re-emphasizes the significance of the event.

whether it's baking a cake for a friend’s birthday or dancing at a wedding until your shoes must come off or breaking out the fancy china on a random Monday, celebrating is one of the best ways to bring people together.

and according to oprah it is a very positive feedback loop.

mission

mission of this week is challenging, but i know you’re capable.

i want you to party by celebrating everything

when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING.

did you not press snooze this morning? did you do your taxes? did you cook a meal that didn't end up in flames? did you break a sweat today? did your partner close a deal they’ve been working on for years? did your best friend finally leave a soul-sucking job? did your coworker find a new apartment? did your parents make it to another anniversary? did your toddler say a new word? did the sun come out today?

look for things worth celebrating for yourself & for others, then do something.

buy yourself flowers. sing miley cyrus. get that special latte. send a text. write a letter. plan a dinner. bake a cake. pop champagne. wear red lipstick. put on your party pants.

life is full of little victories

& it’s our mission to acknowledge them for ourself & for others.

this is the way to incorporate merrymaking into our daily routines.

bc sometimes we need to go a bit gatsby

musing

one of the easiest ways to start celebrating other people is to remember their birthdays.

i think birthdays are the starter drug to celebrating everything.

i know i know. dates are hard to remember & birthdays are not nearly as in your face as they used to be on facebook.

i want merry makery to help you tackle this very personal problem, but before i do i need your help by answering this quick poll question

🥳 how do you keep track of birthdays?

i welcome any & all thoughts on this matter so please do share in a reply, DM, voice memo.

while i await your answers, i recommend you stock up on prior merry makery cards that can be used for birthdays or snag the 6 new birthday specific cards (plus one baby birthday-to-come card).
