understanding 101
good morning,
time to grab your readers as we’re diving into that feeling of really vibing with someone. when they get it & get you.
they speak your language, laugh at your jokes, & just... understand.
that's the energy i’m aiming for with this newsletter & why i sent the reader survey (more on the results below).
but more importantly, that’s the energy i want in my life.
i love living in a tuned in frequency.
i’ve discovered that this authentic attunement comes from mutual understanding. others understanding me & me understanding others.
but building this empathy isn’t easy.
so today i’m sharing my top 7 get-to-know you tools that can be used for all types of relationships: clients, managers, friends, lovers, strangers, parents, kids, pets, & everything else in between.
today’s merry menu:

map magic
life is easier when you know who you’re talking to aka your audience.
true for pitching clients, creating content, leading meetings, selling a house, persuading friends, training dogs, & much more.
knowing your audience is like using google maps in an unknown city. it guides you on the best routes, helps you avoid dead ends, tells you the best treat stops along the way, & ensures you arrive at your desired destination.
resulting in a better experience for you & a stronger connection to the city.

as you know from experience :) humans are even more complex than cities, which means you need more than a map to navigate.
when i’m working to get to understand someone, i approach it like an actress researching & prepping for a role. i immerse myself into their world as much as i possibly can.
these are my 7 go-to research tools:
listening actively to what they’re saying (& not saying)
scrolling their social media & online presence
asking for their myers-briggs type, enneagram, or human design
watching a movie about someone eerily similar
requesting feedback or directly surveying people like them
my newest favorite: sharing what i know about this person with ai then asking ai to answer the questions like that person (i use chatgpt for casual conversations & founder pal for a pretty formatted persona)
i then write this all down in notion or my apple notes because as we talked about last week, writing is how i learn & process.
when done right this research helps you put on a magical pair of glasses that let’s you see the world form someone else’s perspective.
survey says
once again thank you to those that helped me put on my reader glasses by answering the survey. given that y’all are a curious & engaged bunch, i’m sharing what i learned about you, dear readers, in analyzing the data & reading through every comment.
the top focuses of our mostly female audience are happiness (45%) & health (25%). with the most interest in the following topics/skills:
self-improvement & self-worth (75%)
productivity & time management (71%)
authentic connection & friendships (70%)
y’all appreciate the bright fun design, helpful content, & my cheerful, but real, writing style. one reader described the newsletter as “a quick blast of joy. it often makes me smile & gives me something to think about.”
y’all valued the opportunity to provide feedback in the short survey & championed my willingness to change.
y’all see room for improvement for the newsletter by reducing the length & including more specifics, exercises, & resources.

i’m feeling so jazzed by this feedback & what we’re building in our cozy coffee shop corner of the internet.
together we’re going to elevate our self-worth, master our time, & build more connections in pursuit of more merrymaking.
truly such a privilege to help y’all with this.
& please always remember, i’m here for you to answer any questions or just chit chat about life.
this isn’t just my newsletter,
it’s ours.
